Other jobs on the plot
Prepare wigwams and structures of canes for peas and beans to grow up. Prepare netting cages to protect brassicas.
Collect nettles and comfrey leaves, fill a bucket tight with them and top up with rainwater. After a week or two they will have become a rich (but very smelly) liquid plant food. Dilute 1:10 with water.
Globe artichokes – remove rooted offsets that grow around the edges of the main plant and plant them separately for further years. Each plant will crop well for about three years and can then be composted.
Fresh from the plot
Broccoli – early sprouting
Leeks
Lettuce
Rhubarb
Spinach, chard
Turnips
