Join the Huge Vegan Survey – Help Shape the Future of Vegan Research

The vegan movement is growing around the world, but surprisingly little research has explored why people choose a vegan lifestyle, how they make the transition, and what helps them remain committed over the long term. A new international project aims to change that – and you can be part of it.

The Huge Vegan Survey is inviting vegans and plant-based people from every country to take part in what could become one of the world’s largest studies of veganism and plant-based living.

Why This Survey Matters

At the Vegan Organic Network, we know that understanding people’s motivations is essential if we are to create a healthier, more compassionate and environmentally sustainable food system.

Whether your journey began because of concern for animals, the environment, your health, or a combination of all three, your experiences matter. By taking part in this survey, you’ll be helping researchers build a clearer picture of the global vegan movement and identify what encourages people to embrace and sustain a vegan lifestyle.

The findings could help improve education, outreach campaigns, support networks, and future research, making it easier for more people to adopt lifestyles that benefit animals, people, and the planet.

A Truly Global Project

The Huge Vegan Survey is open to adults worldwide who identify as vegan or follow a plant-based lifestyle.

The survey has been designed to be:

  • Completely anonymous
  • Free to take part
  • Accessible on computers and smartphones
  • Quick to complete (around 10 minutes)
  • Open to participants from every country

Unlike many previous studies, the researchers hope to combine a very large international sample with detailed questions, providing a much richer understanding of vegan communities around the world.

Filling Important Knowledge Gaps

The project is led by Jordi Casamitjana, a UK-based vegan zoologist and author, who has designed the survey to address limitations found in previous vegan research.

Rather than simply asking why people become vegan, the survey also explores:

  • People’s motivations and values
  • How individuals transition to veganism
  • What helps people maintain a long-term vegan lifestyle
  • Behavioural patterns within vegan and plant-based communities

These insights could prove invaluable for organisations, campaigners, educators, and researchers working to accelerate the transition towards more compassionate and sustainable food systems.

Why the Vegan Organic Network Supports Research

At the Vegan Organic Network, we believe that evidence-based research plays an important role in creating positive change.

Veganic growing demonstrates that we can produce healthy, abundant food without the use of animal inputs or synthetic chemicals. Understanding why people embrace veganism and what helps them stay committed complements this work by providing valuable insights into the wider movement for compassionate and sustainable living.

The more we understand people’s experiences, the better equipped we are to inspire others and build resilient communities that care for animals, biodiversity, soils, and future generations.

Take Part

If you’re vegan or plant-based, please consider spending just ten minutes completing the Huge Vegan Survey.

Every response helps build a stronger evidence base for the vegan movement and contributes to research that could benefit campaigners, educators, charities, and policymakers around the world.
