How to Maintain and Enhance Soil Organic Carbon (S.O.C.) in Arable/Horticultural Stockfree Organic Farms
The presentation will develop the concept and practice of maintaining and building SOC within rotational vegetable/arable cropping within a stockfree organic system of culture.
How and where does the Carbon come from will be discussed, along with the principles of crop rotations, choosing the green manure mixes and applications of ramial chipped wood or composter woodchip.
The presentation will bring results of 2022 tests on deep soil carbon contents at Tolhurst Organic farm in South Oxfordshire, land which has been in continuous vegetable production and without any animal inputs since 1987.
